About our classes
BALLET
Ballet 2-3 years
Pre ballet for the young student incorporates beginner’s body basics, music time signatures, the use of props and fun music, ballet terminology, dance routines and exercises designed for the young body. The Risi Academy of Dance faculty understands the anatomical knowledge and limitations of a young body and applies this knowledge when teaching young students. It is important to take the appropriate precautions when teaching this very young age.
Ballet 4-5 years
Pre ballet for this age group incorporates a more structured pre ballet syllabus but still with a huge emphasis on having fun and enjoying the movement and music ballet has to offer. Music is more classical and terminology increases with ballet exercises and steps. Dance routines are more demanding and the children start to learn a quiet discipline and also how to respect one another in class.
Ballet 6-7
Children will begin with the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. They will take 9 -12 months to learn a grade which incorporates many exercises. The syllabus offers centre practise, working across the room, working with a partner, character work, freemovement and a variety of dances. This is the first time the children will learn how to apply and sustain the demands of ballet posture and turnout.
Ballet 7-8
Children have already learned the most important fundamentals of ballet. These fundamental will take years to perfect. An increase of exercises and more demanding dance routines will be expected of the students.
Ballet 9-10
Students will need to attend ballet more than once a week to begin perfecting the dance routines and syllabus laid out for them. Students of a high standard may begin to work towards wearing pointe shoes if strong enough.
Ballet 11 -12
Students will begin the major ballet syllabus which is designed for the student who would like to continue with dancing till they graduate from school.
The Risi Academy of Dance now provides classes for all of the above student looking for ballet training.
MODERN
Beginners
Structured classes providing stretch and strengthening, across the floor work, partnering, fun dance routines. Geared for children who enjoy commercial music and love to dance and perform.
Juniors
Classes that are more demanding of the children and more challenging. More dance routines and technique are required. Students doing ballet will find this easier than children who have never danced before.
Seniors
Most seniors have reached a level of dancing now that incorporates all the technique and musical demands moder dancing requires. Students at this level perform and can audition for musicals and dance teams.
FUNK
Funk is for the student who wants to move and has the ability to be funky. A very popular form of dancing. Fun for all ages and very rewarding. Funk is pure dance and has it’s own technique and formula which is different to modern and ballet. A great form of exercise and excellent for self esteem.
